CPVC Pipes and Fittings

Chlorinated Polyvinyl Carbon (CPCV) is a plastic polymer which is basically prepared by a free radical chlorination reaction of polyvinyl carbon (PVC). These two plastic polymers are all similar in composition except the higher percentage of chlorine in CPVC (74%) as compared to PVC’s (57%). But they do differ in how they respond in real life applications.

Prestige CPVC pipes and fittings in Lahore are manufactured by Lubrizol’s CPVC compounds. CPVC pipes and fittings have tons of benefits over PVC pipes or polypropylene pipes. The extra chlorine content in the CPVC basically makes the pipes inert and hence imparts some very useful characteristics in the pipes and fittings that make them better than the other types of pipes in Pakistan.

The benefits of CPVC pipes and fittings are listed below:

  • Can bear heat (Upto 200° F)
  • Resistant to Chlorine
  • Opposes bacterial attachment
  • Resistant to corrosion
  • More Durable
  • Insulative features
  • Easy and fast installation
  • Long Lifetime

Due to these benefits, Prestige CPVC pipes and fittings have a long list of applications including domestic use, at pools, with geysers and in wastewater treatment too. Prestige CPVC pipes in Pakistan safely transport water at all these places. Below is explained what hazards could be faced by pipes in the distribution of water and how CPVC helps overcome them thanks to their characteristics

CPVC Pipes and Fittings

Hazards to the CPVC Pipes and Fittings :

When water is supplied through the pipes, it can threaten the integrity of the pipe for most of the materials due to the following hazards.

Corrosion
Water is treated by Hydrochloric Acid or by chlorine to remove organic constituents before supply. While this water is safe for consumption, it still poses a threat to the pipe since chlorine present in the water can damage it. CPVC is resistant to corrosive effects of chlorine because it already contains a lot of chlorine in its structure. Besides, CPVC pipes also do not react with the water molecules and hence are resistant to hydrolysis too.

UV Rays
Sunlight contains Ultraviolet (UV) rays that produce free radicals within the normal thermoplastics such as polypropylene. These free radicals can damage the pipe material. The effects might not be visible for some time, however continued exposure could lead to premature leaks and weaken the pipe. However in case of CPVC pipes, they are resistant to free radical attack due to their high content of chlorine. In addition, CPVC pipes and fittings also have specialised additives that block the UV rays and prevent them from damage. This property of CPVC pipes and fittings is alsos another factor increasing their lifetime.

Bacterial Growth
For pipes made out of normal materials, bacteria can adhere to the pipe’s walls and can rapidly grow there and spread back in the moving water. Such bacterial contaminated water consumed could cause serious health disorders and may even be life threatening in some cases. CPVC pipes have smooth surfaces where bacteria are unable to adhere and grow. Hence, CPVC pipes are resistant to bacterial contaminations too.

Combustion
Polypropylene pipes are combustible so they can catch fire in different scenarios. They can catch fire when some heat source such as fire comes near them. They also can catch fire during instalments and they are installed by heat welding. However, CPVC pipes and fittings are non-combustible and self extinguishing. So, there is no danger of them catching fire.

Friction
Another thing that can damage pipes and can cause leaks and pipe failures in the long run is continuous friction. It can happen in underground pipelines when debris could damage the pipe by friction. But since the coefficient of flow velocity (degree of smoothness of pipe inner wall) of CPVC is higher than other piping materials, so friction loss is small. Hence, CPVC pipes and fittings are less vulnerable to friction losses too

Prestige CPVC Products

Prestige CPVC Products

Prestige CPVC products include SDR 11 & 13.5 pipes that come in different and all sorts of diameters. They also include a wide range of plumbing fittings such as 45 or 90 degrees bends, Tees, elbows, valves, long bends, unions, and Reuters, etc. CPVC Pipes in Pakistan combine to give a flawless water supply at different types of places.

CPVC Pipes Easy Installation

CPVC Pipes Easy Installation

Prestige CPVC pipes require fewer supports as they are made rigid. They Are light in weight and easy to cut too. CPVC pipes and fittings are assembled and joined without heat by CPVC plus solvent cement. These chemically welded joints are very strong and are better in many aspects and compared to heat welded joints. Hence they do not require electrical equipment to be installed and are easier to be installed. Also, because of adhesive bonding, there is no bead formation and no obstruction of fluid flow at the joint part. So the water flows smoothly at joints too.

Applications of CPVC Pipes

Owing to their benefits, CPVC pipes and fittings can be used in the following places

1. Geyser Water
Since CPCV can bear a temperature upto 200° F, pipes made out of them are used to carry nearly boiling water of the geysers. These pipes can supply hot water without getting deformed. Also, due to its superb insulating properties, heat can not flow out of the pipes which keeps the water hot with minimum energy loss. Hence, it is also responsible for keeping water hot inside the pipes.

2. Wastewater Management
Wastewater is treated by highly hazardous chemicals. These chemicals have highly corrosive effects on other pipes but the CPCV is resistant to corrosion under the influence of such chemicals.

3. Swimming Pools
Chlorinated water is used in swimming pools to inhibit bacteria and keep the water clean. This chlorinated water can damage other pipes such as PVC pipes. But due to the high content of chlorine already present in CPVC, they are resistant to corrosion by chlorine. Hence, they are used in swimming pools to transport chlorinated water.

4. Domestic Use
CPVC pipes are also used commonly in households as they have a long lifetime and have low coefficient of expansion. They can supply hot as well as cold water. They also are able to supply the water safely and are reliable.

5. Industries
Owing to their tough nature, CPVC pipes can bear harsh chemical environments and can carry water containing different substances without getting damaged. This is the reason why they are called as the piping solution for industries.

6. Hospitals and Hotels
CPVC pipes are also used in the water supply systems of hospitals as well as hotels since they can carry all kinds of water. These pipes ensure the supply of hot as well as cold water effectively.

Why Prestige CPVC Pipes and Fittings Over Polypropylene Ones?

  • CPVC pipes are made up of stronger material
  • More lifetime than others
  • Easier to Install
  • Bacterial resistant
  • Non-combustible material
  • Does not erode in chlorinated water
  • CPVC pipes can be recycled

Concluding, we can say that pipes and fittings made up of Chlorinated Polyvinyl Carbons (CPCV) are better than those made up of other substances like polyvinyl carbon and polypropylene etc. They are more reliable and durable and hence are perfect for a wide range of applications. Also, they have a longer lifetime so they make life a lot easier. Hence, CPVC pipes and fittings provide a relatively cheaper, better quality, and long-term service.
